Culture
Yogyakarta is also known with its slogan “Jogja Istimewa” which literally means “special Yogyakarta”. Jogja is a nickname of Yogyakarta as a tourist destination. Yogyakarta is special because it is the only province in Indonesia in a form of sultanate with the Sultan also serving as the governor. Yogyakarta is also rich with Javanese culture where sophisticated culture is well preserved and practiced in daily lives of the people.
Transportation
From Adi Sucipto Airport in Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada or Sultan Palace or Hotel around Yogyakarta can be reached by taxi with approximately USD 5-10. Airport taxi can be ordered from official taxi counter at the airport, near the arrival gate. Alternatively, taxies can also be booked via online app such as Uber, Grab, Go-Car, Say taxi, etc. Public transportation called Trans Jogja is also available and in a good service but it does not cover the entirety of the region, especially rural areas.
Climate
Yogyakarta, like other cities in tropical areas, is a relatively humid place with temperature ranging from 23ºC to 32ºC. It might feel warm especially for those coming from subtropical countries. July is officially dry season but in the last couple of years, climate and season is less predictable. Participats are advised to be prepared.
